About UsIMG_8450.jpeg

Fifth Street Flower Shop has been providing the finest floral arrangements to the Springfield metro area since 2-23-31 when Truman Cole purchased Cole Flower Shop, 318 S. 5th St, Springfield, Il, from his father Van Iles Cole and changed the name to Fifth Street Flower Shop.

In 1957 Truman Cole turned the business over to his sister & brother-in-law, Joseph & Alma Jeune Cole Harsha.

July 18, 1976 The Illinois State Journal reported the selling and future destruction of the Lincoln Theater Building, where Fifth Street Flower Shop was located. Joseph & Alma Jeune had not been officially informed of the impending loss of their shop. A flower shop had been at this location since 1915 when William Hembreiker & Van Iles Cole became partners after leaving Lincoln, Il and employment with Gullett and Sons Greenhouses.

Forced to move, Joseph & Alma Jeune relocated to 8th & Cook St.

Most Gracious Father, we give glory for the creation of the beautiful flowers of the earth and in all their vast array and to You we give thanks for all the people you have entrusted with the care and distribution of Your perfect creation. Upon this blessing of Fifth Street Flower Shop we ask that Your Holy Presence be made know to us and we also ask the Blessed Virgin Mary, who is Lily of the Valley and the Rose of Sharon, and Saint Theresa the Little Flower who is the Patron Saint of Florists to join with us in the blessing.
